New York Foundling Hospital’s building in New York City underwent a conversion from a full service children’s hospital to a mixed use building in 2012. Molten Mechanical was chosen as the contractor to modernize the chiller plant. No small undertaking as the existing absorption chiller containing a solution of lithium bromide had to first be removed, then replaced with (2) 200 ton centrifugal chillers. Chiller and condenser pumps, automated controls and electrical systems were all replaced as part of this project.
Montefiore Medical Center’s Moses Campus has hosted us on a number of projects. Due to our ability to work quickly, safely and with other trades we have been asked to perform over and over. In 2015 Montefiore began an upgrade of their MRI Suite from adding 3 units to their existing 2 MRIs. Molten Mechanical was selected to provide the welded stainless steel piping used to convey liquid helium from the MRI magnets to the Roof in case of an emergency.
Also in 2015 Montefiore undertook a re-purposing of an existing 12 story building currently used as a dormitory. In order to provide climate control for the new offices that will be incorporated in the building, Molten Mechanical erected a 100 Ton chiller on the Roof and ran new chilled water risers on the exterior of the building. Branches were brought into the building at each floor in order to provide future chilled water service as required.
The (5) tier, 15th floor Pressure Reducing Station at North Central Bronx Hospital provides usable steam for Operating Room climate control, humidification of patient wards and autoclave sterilization. The facility only allowed one tier to be worked on at one time and only for 8 hours a day. In other words, once a tier was taken down, it had to be put back into service by the end of the day. Not easy when dealing with 14″ high pressure steam lines! We were able to accomplish the job ahead of schedule leaving the facility very happy with the results.
Metropolitan Hospital has been the scene of many upgrades over the years. Some notable projects : Modernization of the climate control equipment serving the Operating Rooms, Surgical and Neonatal Intensive Care Units; Upgrade of the Pressure Reducing Station, Ventilation and Humidification of the Renal Dialysis Center; Heating and Air Conditioning for the NYC HHC EPIC Training Facility. Being a major New York City hospital every project is time sensitive and involves critical environmental systems. Just like working on a patient, there is no room for error on these projects.
